The Umpire School Welcomes First Class Sunday
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Umpire School, the only all-inclusive professional baseball umpire school with on-site field and classroom instruction; housing; dining; and recreation, will begin instructing its first class Sunday at Vero Beach Sports Village in Vero Beach, Fla. Professional Baseball Umpire Corp (PBUC) supervisors will instruct attendees of the 28-day course that runs through February 5. PBUC oversees the training and employment of umpires in the Minor League Baseball system throughout the United States and Canada.“We are excited to welcome our inaugural class,” Executive Director of The Umpire School Justin Klemm said. “It is rewarding to see the culmination of two years of planning come to fruition. Our entire staff is looking forward to seeing the immediate impact our training methods will have on the umpiring profession and watching our students’ growth during the course.”

Minor League Baseball Announces O’Malley Partnership to Operate Vero Beach Sports Village
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Minor League Baseball™ announced today the formation of a new entity to operate Vero Beach Sports Village (VBSV), formerly known as Dodgertown. In addition to MiLB, the participants include former Dodger President Peter O’Malley, his sister, Terry Seidler, and former Dodger star pitchers Chan Ho Park and Hideo Nomo.MiLB will submit the proposed transfer of its VBSV lease to officials of Indian River County, which owns the facility, for approval.
Each of the five participants would have an equal ownership share in the new entity. O’Malley would be the Chairman and CEO, MiLB President Pat O’Conner President and COO and Craig Callan will continue in his current role in the operation of VBSV. Callan has worked for 33 years at the historic facility.
